Since the school opened her gates to the public on the 1st of May, 1963, Lara Day School has been committed to building an environment of learning aimed at nurturing and educating children within an atmosphere of love. The vision for the school was conceived by Late. Rev. Akin Adesola in loving memory of his late mother, a lover of kids, and a devoted teacher, Mrs Victoria Omolara Adesola. For 57 years and counting, the school has provided a family-affair learning environment that values individual development, growth, and achievement.
Inside Lara Day School classroom, the children are immersed in an environment that reflects five essential characteristics:
- Challenging – They learn by being engaged in complex tasks.
- Balanced & Flexible – They learn in their own ways.
- Collaborative – They learn by working together.
- Experiential – They learn by doing.
- Reflective – They learn by revisiting their work.
The school has a mission to help each child develop his/her God-given talent for effective participation within an ever-changing world by maintaining consistent philosophy and objectives which nurture and educate the whole child physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. The school is proud of the exemplary achievements of past and current results of her alumni.
In a chat with Mrs Patricia Tioluwani, the Director of Lara Day School, she stated what parents should expect from the school. “Over the years, Lara Day School has released children like eagles to soar and remain relevant [at] home and abroad,” she said. “We keep receiving commendations from ex-parents because our pupils continue to excel academically and demonstrate outstanding behaviour in secondary schools of [their] choice. We nurture the mind and the heart of every child in addition to helping them discover hidden potentials,” she concludes.
The school is blessed with competent members of staff. These outstanding individuals utilise the Nigerian-British Curriculum to meet the needs of every child. Using personalised teaching methods and well-equipped facilities, every child is groomed for the journey ahead, academically, spiritually, and physically.
Despite having existed for 57 years, Lara Day does not intend to be complacent and rest on their laurels. “57 years of existence has enabled us to have a clear mind about what we want and do not want for this school,” Mrs Tioluwani said. “We are more resolute in our vision of nurturing the total child who is also a future leader with a heart. Our years of experience have also positioned us to prepare for the next 50 years.”
